Discovering the Best Coffee Shops in Koh Samui: A Personal Journey

If you know me well, you know I have an undeniable love affair with coffee shops. 🤎 There’s something special about coffee shops that keeps pulling me in, no matter where I am.

My passion for coffee shops began in college, where I spent countless hours studying and catching up with friends in various coffee shops around the city. It’s not just about the coffee; it’s about the ambiance, the unique personalities of each place, and the stories told through their décor. I'm not talking about Starbucks. I'm referring to the independent coffee shops, each with its own charm and character. I love the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, the creative drinks they offer, and the delightful bistro-style menus. These elements combined create a cozy and inviting atmosphere that I just can’t resist.

When I travel, discovering new coffee shops is always a highlight. In Koh Samui, I’m truly spoiled by the vibrant coffee shop culture. The island is home to numerous hidden gems, each offering a unique experience that adds to the charm of this beautiful destination.

We’re spending two months in this tropical paradise, and I am so excited to explore and share my favorite coffee shops with you. Whether you're a coffee enthusiast or simply looking for a great place to relax, you’ll find plenty of inspiration here.

Café K.O.B in Bophut

One of my absolute favorite spots in Koh Samui is Café K.O.B. in Bophut. Originally established as a bakery in 2017, K.O.B. (King of Bread) expanded a year later to include hot drinks, and so, Café K.O.B. was born.

This cozy café, with its inviting Boho décor, has quickly become a daily stop for us. Whether we’re picking up our favorite sourdough bread and viennoiseries or simply a latte, it never disappoints.

The food is delightful. We’ve had lunch there three times already, and I can’t get enough of their avo-toast with smoked salmon or the grilled cheese sandwich. Each visit feels like a little treat, combining comfort food with a cozy atmosphere.

While Café K.O.B. has opened several other locations over the years, the original spot in Bophut remains our favorite so far. We did check out Café K.O.B. by the sea, but it felt too touristy and busy, lacking the local charm that makes the Bophut location so special.

If you find yourself in Samui, make the detour to the Bophut location – it’s totally worth it.

Sweet-Sisters Café

If you're heading to the southeast coast of Koh Samui, you can't miss Sweet-Sisters Café. Whether you're craving a smoothie or a delicious lunch, this charming spot is a must-visit.

Don’t be fooled by its exterior – behind the plants lies a café full of character. Every detail is thoughtfully arranged, creating a cozy, moody ambiance that makes you feel right at home. It almost felt like sitting in my grandmother's old house in Europe, waiting for my lunch. The homey vibe is made even cozier by the tradition of taking off your shoes as you enter.

While the hot kitchen was under construction during our visit, we were more than satisfied with the cold options. Mini enjoyed her usual veggies with hummus, especially indulging in the olives – this kid! We had the most delicious veggies and feta wrap.

For vegans out there, there's lots of options in the menu, and for the carnivores, well I guess you'll just have to order dessert or coffee. 😉

Landre In Café & Co-Working

What a pleasant discovery this is. Only a couple of minutes from our house, Landerin Café in Bophut is not just a coffee shop, it’s also a trendy co-working space. Who knows, you might catch me here sipping a latte during a Teams meeting one day! If you need to organize a small group meeting in Samui, this is the place. You can rent the private room overlooking the café for just 200 baht ($5.50) per hour.

We had lunch at Landre In, and I enjoyed seafood pasta with a Thai twist 🌶️ paired with a refreshing Mint & Lemon soda. Joe treated himself to a Nicoise salad and a passion fruit-infused soda. Yummy!

The Coffee Club

Babyccino at The Coffee Culture in Samui

Normally, a chain coffee shop wouldn't make it onto my list of favorites, but since we're traveling with Mini, The Coffee Club has become a hit with our family.

While it might lack a bit of character, it makes up for it with its extensive and delicious menu.

But the real star for us is the Babyccino. Have you ever heard of a Babyccino? Well, now you have. As soon as you walk into The Coffee Club with your little one, the waiter immediately asks if they'd like a Babyccino and brings over a coloring kit. It's such a thoughtful touch that makes dining out more enjoyable for us parents.

Vikasa Life Café

We just recently discovered Vikasa Life Café and it was love at first sight. It’s part of the Vikasa Yoga Retreat complex which I am putting on my bucket list. The café is perched on a cliff-side overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The view is breathtaking but the food is even better. They offer an array of creative healthy options using organic and locally grown ingredients. Read more about our experience at Vikasa Life Café.
