Why Thailand Won Our Hearts as Our First Southeast Asia Adventure Spot

Koh Phagnan Food Truck

We're gearing up for a six-month whirlwind abroad. But before we dive into this epic adventure, we had to nail down exactly what we wanted out of it.

Thailand quickly stole the show as our top pick for our first stop. Here's why:

First off, we were itching for a total cultural immersion, something wildly different from our Canadian roots. Thailand's got this incredible mix of rich heritage, vibrant traditions, and super welcoming vibes. From bustling night markets to serene temples and pristine beaches, we are thrilled to dive headfirst into Thai culture.

Now, safety was a big thing for us, especially with our little Mini. Thailand's reputation for being super safe, plus the fact that we could easily find English-speaking childcare, reassure us... Hubby becoming the teacher for 6 months... not my idea of peacefulness. :)

And let's talk about work. With my remote work, I needed reliable internet like I need my morning coffee. Thailand's got a good network in terms of infrastructure, so I could clock in and still soak up the adventure.

Of course, who could resist Thailand's beachy vibes? We've been craving that laid-back beach lifestyle, especially coming from Montreal where beach time is a rare treat. Thailand's tropical climate and stunning coastlines had us dreaming of lazy days in the sun and reconnecting with the ocean.

But it's not just about play—having a stable community was key for us during our extended stay. Luckily, Thailand's got thriving expat communities that offer support and a sense of belonging. I am not a big fan of Facebook Groups, but found some particularly useful.

And let's not forget about convenience. Thailand's got this very well connected transportation system, making it a breeze to hop around and explore nearby spots.

So, with all these boxes ticked, Thailand was a no-brainer for our first stop in Southeast Asia. We're stoked to dive into this adventure and share every moment with you.
