We touched down in Samui just over a week ago, and it's already got that "home" feeling. We’re loving the island vibe and are thrilled we’ve picked it as our home base for the next 6 weeks.
We rented a house in the Bophut area where island living meets modern convenience. It’s more than just a postcard-perfect destination; it's a vibrant community with all the amenities.
Our house is perfect. A spacious 3-bedroom villa ensuring we all have our own space, plus a pool, a lifesaver in this heat. I know, we keep on talking about the heat, but seriously weren't prepared.

I got my remote office set up; back to work this week, so back to reality! Managing the time zones’ been ok.
Mini also began daycare, and we're happy to see her enjoying it. It's a big relief, especially since finding playmates for her has been a bit tricky since leaving Canada. We're keeping our fingers crossed for some beach buddies this weekend.
We’ve already found our favourite bakery, supermarket, and coffee shop. And no, it’s not Starbucks. We’re really impressed with the supermarket. We didn’t expect to find such a broad variety of products. The foreign products are more on the expensive side, but still much cheaper than back home. The fruits are to die for and surprisingly the non-local veggies are really good to. We have a cucumber and tomato addict in the family, and that’s Mini. They passed the test.
We've tried a handful of restaurants so far, and once again, we're blown away by the variety and quality of the food. Joe sticks to his go-to Pad Thai, playing it safe, while I'm a bit more adventurous. One of my favourite’s; pineapple rice at Thongsonbay.

Renting a car? An absolute game-changer. Life here wouldn't be the same without it. It gives us that freedom that we both need and strive for everywhere we travel to. Adapting to driving on the right side in Thailand is a hilarious challenge though. I accidentally trigger the wipers instead of the signals multiple times a day and even get into the car from the wrong side. Quite the spectacle, especially when I am alone. Joe's stress level skyrockets when he's not behind the wheel. I'm genuinely puzzled as to why...
Last weekend, we explored two beaches: Chaweng Noi and Silver Beach, both of which we adored. At Silver Beach, Mini had a blast finding Dory while snorkeling for the first time. Proud parents over here! Chaweng boasts crystal-clear waters, but we ended up spending more time at the resort’s pool because Mini made a friend, and let's face it, a cool pool beats a hot soup any day!
Finally, we've adopted the cat and the 3 kittens that live on our property. Mini named her Fancy.

As we navigate our way through the quirks and charms of life in Samui, we're getting more and more grateful for the wild ride of experiences and memories this island will bring us.
